ESPN Show a Success | Mosley Returns with a Victory, Margarito KO's Cintron

by Luke Callahan
4/24 - Caesars Palace, Las Vegas - A return to welterweight is just what the candy shoppe ordered for 'Sugar' Shane Mosley. Having gone 1-4 with a no-contest over his previous six fights, Mosley was again prime for the taking after choosing a rather difficult opponent last night.

Instead, Mosley reminded fans why he still could become the undisputed welterweight champ.

The 33-year old Mosley, 40-4, was impressive, showing good movement, along with control stealing combinations when he had to. After 10-rounds of action, Mosley had scored a unanimous decision over David Estrada, 18-2, by scores of 98-91, 97-93 [twice]. The win could set up a summer-time showdown with WBO welterweight champ Antonio Margarito.

In the main-event on the ESPN PPV telecast, WBO welterweight king Margarito dropped 'interim' champ Kermit Cintron, 25-1, four times, causing Kermit's corner to halt the bout at 2:12 of the 5th round.

After a gash opened up on a solid punch in the third round rushing blood into Kermit's eye, Margarito took over landing power shots almost at will, giving the previously unbeaten Cintron a one-sided drubbing.

After Margarito, 31-4, dropped Cintron late in the 4th, he came back in the 5th to end it, dropping him twice more to force a corner stoppage.

In the evening's only heavyweight fight, 'The Boxing Banker' Calvin Brock weathered a 7th round knockdown, to win a 10-round unanimous decision over former title-challenger Jameel McCline.

In clearly his biggest fight to date, Brock, who weighed some 50-pounds less that McCline, remained unbeaten landing the harder and more telling blows of the fight.
