Corrales-Casamayor III Could Be a Classic
FRI Semptember 29, JULIUS STECKER - Ring Magazine Lightweight Champion Diego Corrales, 40-3, is chomping at the bit. After being denied a chance to redeem himself earlier this year against Jose Luis Castillo, because of Castillo’s mishap at the scale, Corrales will finally get his opportunity to shine...

Brewer's Contender Win Leads Where Exactly?
THU September 28, CLIFF ROLD - I wondered aloud in my preview of this bout whether we would get a traditional boring bout between counterpunchers in the ESPN Contender finale. Instead we got a rough, grappling, inside battle between seasoned pros Stevie Forbes (32-4, 9 KOs) and Grady Brewer (21-11, 12 KOs) that was interesting if not terribly thrilling. That is unless you are one Grady Brewer who holds now the thrill of a tournament victory, a new ride and $500 thousand reasons to smile. [Links Take You To RingTalk.com]

The Little Rascal is Super Fly at Superfly
TUE September 26, BUSTER PARIS - I've got to quote TalkingBoxing's Frank Gonzalez as the opener to my take on Jorge "Travieso" Arce vs. Masibulele “Hawk” Makepula for their bout that took place on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at the Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, TX. Here’s what Frank says:

“Masibulele ‘Hawk’ Makepula looked in a trance. He sang a religious song as he marched...

Jorge Arce Keeps His Word, Wins by KO in Four
SUN September 24, FRANK GONZALEZ - On his way to partake in a WBC Super Flyweight Eliminator bout, Masibulele “Hawk” Makepula looked in a trance. He sang a religious song as he marched very slowly to the ring. It felt like 20 minutes. That’s a great strategy if you aim to put the crowd to sleep. I also notice that often times when guys sing spiritual hymns en route to the ring, they get knocked out.

Rising Mexican Star and aspiring Super Flyweight Champion Jorge Arce said before the fight that he’d move around a bit in the first couple of...

Marco De La Hopkins | Barrera Beats Juarez in Rematch
WED September 20, BUSTER PARIS - Rocky was clearly irked – he dropped his hands to his sides, somewhat shrugged his shoulders and gave an exasperated look that pleaded and begged for the man in front of him to fight – to stand still and go toe to toe – like he did with Morales – hell, like he did last fight -- c’mon already - lets go to war.

Latin Warriors Barrios, Guzman, Gonzalez, Vasquez and Barrera Shine!
MON September 18, FRANK GONZALEZ - Saturday night at the MGM in Las Vegas, the Main Event featured Marco Antonio Barrera (63-4-0-1 ND, 42 KO’s) in a rematch against Rocky Juarez (25-3-0,18 KO’s). Though Barrera won the decision in the first fight, many felt that if it had gone longer than 12 rounds, Juarez would have won, since the momentum shifted his way late in that first fight.

VIDEO: A Rested, Focused Diego Corrales says Joel Casamayor in Trouble

Barrera v Juarez II | It’s All About The Intangibles
WED September 13, BUSTER PARIS - Round 7 – May 20th 2006 - both fighters shoulder to shoulder and slugging it out. Both crashing gloves to the others body. Marco Antonio Barrera loses his mouthpiece (he'd also lose it in the 8th round) – we found out later that it was a new one that wasn’t working out well, but at the time it had us remembering Diego Corrales and even asking questions like “broken jaw?

"I really want to win this fight for my family and for Mexico," said Vazquez at a recent open workout. "When I beat Gonzalez, I’m looking at Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barerra in the future."

Simply put, James Toney won the fight
WED September 6, BUSTER PARIS - James Toney won the fight. I know what the scorecards said – both Judge Dick Flaherty and Judge Alejandro Rochin had it 116-111 for Samuel Peter and Judge Gale Van Hoy had it 115-112 for James Toney --- yes, I know that, it's in the record books now, but it's wrong...

Talking Boxing with JOAN GUZMAN
WED September 6, PHILLIP DIAZ - Never one to back down for a challenge, former 122-lb champ Joan Guzman made a quick stop at featherweight last year and now finds himself ready to take on WBO super featherweight champion Jorge Barrios on September 16th, live on HBO. Coming off an easy decision win over former champ Javier Jauregui in May, Guzman is ready for this shot and focused on Barrios. “I eat, run, lift weights, spar, go shopping - whatever I’m doing, I’m thinking about Barrios and that title of his," said Guzman at a recent workout...

Nigerian a dream, but officials prove to be the nightmare
TUE September 5, ROGER GORDILLO - The consensus was split on who would emerge victorious in the days leading into the nights main event, a WBC title eliminator between James “Lights Out” Toney 69-5-3, 43 KO’s and “The Nigerian Nightmare” Samuel Peter 27-1, 22 KO’s. One side viewed the young challenger as too raw while the other side viewed the veteran as over the hill and out of shape.
