Calvin Brock: America’s Last Heavyweight Hope
THUR October 26, JULIUS STECKER - Heavyweights are usually what drive the sport of boxing. There is nothing in sports quite like sitting ringside watching two Goliaths engage in a battle royal, trying to prove who is the better man. It is what gravitated sports fans to the division since the turn of the 20th century. But instead of a division being inhabited by the likes of Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Joe Frazier, and Muhammad Ali. It is now littered with the names of Oleg Maskeav, Nicolay Valuev, Wladimir Klitschko and Sergei Liakhovich. Names most people can’t even pronounce and fighters most people don’t even know. But folks these are your heavyweight champions, not names out of an Eastern European yellow pages.

Coming Live on a Computer Near You? MaxBoxing to Show Cintron-Saurez Live!
MON October 23, CLIFF ROLD - Media technology curves have always been great for boxing. The growth of newspapers in the ‘yellow journalism’ age made stars of men like Jack Johnson and Stanley Ketchel with the sensationalism of the writing going hand in hand with the color of the personalities in the sport. Boxing grew with radio and it grew with TV... [Links Take You To RingTalk.com]

Unacceptable
SUN October 23, BRIAN BLAKE - There were a few things that the boxing fans in El Paso, TX didn’t count on. One of which was Juan Manuel Marquez’ opponent not being cleared to step into the United States for his bout, which led to the main event being called off.

Another thing they didn’t count on was Manuel Garnica getting blatantly robbed in his fight against Juan Lazcano.

When a fighter who was born in the city he is now fighting in gets a decision and the crowd roars in disagreement, you know something is wrong. Which is exactly what happened this past weekend.

Manuel Garnica got robbed. Plain and simple.

Ponce De Leon - Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
SUN October 22, BUSTER PARIS - Daniel Ponce De Leon will merrily punch you in the face, then he’ll punch you in the ear, then punch your neck, then your shoulder, your arm, your elbow, your stomach, your hip, your leg, your foot – whatever.

It doesn’t matter to him where he hits you – as long as he does -- his basic fight blueprint is based off of that old children’s song:

“Head, shoulders, knees and toes – knees and toes – head, shoulders, knees and toes – knees and toes -- eyes and ears and mouth and nose - head, shoulders, knees and toes – knees and toes”

One Step Closer - Calzaghe Decisions Bika
FRI, October 20 Brian O. Blake - Nine years. Joe Calzaghe has held the WBO super middleweight belt for nine whole years. You’d think that would command a great deal of respect. But it hasn’t. He’s gained a lifetime of criticism in that period of time.

But it’s not like it’s without good reason. He’s ducked and dodged good competition for pretty much his whole career, whether it was up to him or not. For numerous years Joe has called out the most elite fighters in the game

Joe Calzaghe – Las Vegas is Calling
TUE October 17, BUSTER PARIS - In addition to an ugly Roman Greco wrestling imitation Sakio Bika would land some really hard slamming blows that would physically hurt Joe Calzaghe in that “he’ll be feeling it tomorrow” kind of way. Fortunately for Joe the shots were lacking that crucial ingredient that would have made them more threatening or punishing, but we all know that Calzaghe shouldn't take them for granted – it is after all boxing – and anything can happen – and then something did ...

Running On Fumes – Corrales vs. Cassamayor III
WED October 11, BUSTER PARIS - He’s such a nice, sincere and honest guy – you can’t help but like him – and even though he totally screwed up, screwed us and ruined what could have been a fantastic trilogy – you can’t help but want to give him a pass and to see him fight again -- maybe Diego “Chico” Corrales can go on to 140 or 147 pounds -- maybe even one more time with Jose Luis Castillo...

Valuev Too Big For Barrett, Wins Via TKO
MON October 9, FRANK GONZALEZ - Saturday night at the Allstate Arena by Chicago, Monte Barrett showed big heart in challenging gigantic, WBA Heavyweight Champion, Nicolay Valuev. Maybe if Barrett had a better sling shot, he might’ve slain the mighty Goliath that is Valuev. Instead, Valuev won this sloppily fought contest by TKO in the 11th round after Barrett was floored a few times...

Casamayor Rules at Lightweight - Adamek-Briggs Just Rules!

No fight was more important than Showtime’s third battle...[Links Take You To RingTalk.com]

TUE October 3, BUSTER PARIS - Yes -- this week’s column is starting off as a plea to the folks over at HBO, Showtime, Fox, ESPN … and everyone else who bring us fights. Please, please, please give us more John Duddy.

I haven’t been able to see him fight since July 22nd, 2005 where he fought and won an 8 rounder - via an 8th round TKO - against a very game and tough Patrick Coleman...
