Mikkel Kessler-Librado Andrade: HBO's Fight of the Year?
MON January 29, CLIFF ROLD - Amidst a slew of weekend action, it was the announcement of two more unbelievably good bouts for March 2007 that gave fight fans the most to cheer about. On the March 3rd undercard of the subpar Miguel Cotto-Oktay Urkal fight, Ring’s #3 middleweight contender Edison Miranda of Colombia will square off with #8 super middleweight Allan Green of Tulsa, OK. Even better, Boxing After Dark’s much maligned lineup got an adrenaline shot... [Links Take You To RingTalk.com]
Vitali Klitschko is Back...Call the Lawyers!
THU January 25, CLIFF ROLD - The press release that heralded the return of Vitali Klitschko was audacious, announcing not only that he was back but that he was coming for WBC heavyweight beltholder Oleg Maskaev. Some are asking “Isn’t that the belt Samuel Peter just paid two sanctioning fees and won two fights to get a shot at?” [Links Take You To RingTalk.com]
Vitali Klitschko is Back, Looking for WBC Title Shot
WED, January 24 - “I’ve been back in the gym for a couple of weeks and I feel great. My injuries have healed and after much hard work and with the approval of the doctors, I am cleared to continue my boxing career.
“I am returning to the ring to get my WBC Heavyweight Championship back. In November 2005, due to a serious knee injury, I retired without having lost the WBC belt in the ring....
Hatton Still Has It At 140 – Bring On Castillo
MON January 22, Buster Paris - 8 of the 12 rounds were pretty much identical with Hatton hopping up and down and back and forth like the Energizer Bunny wearing fringe and on 7 cups of supped up espresso – popping off some jabs and keeping on the outside - which is new for him - and then suddenly popping inside to say hello to the Southpaw Urango and snap off a few blows to the head and body – a quickie hug – Referee Tony Weeks breaking them apart...

Pacquiao Chooses Chi..Vasquez-Marquez a Must See! Margarito Not Ducking Williams
THU January 18, CLIFF ROLD - Manny Pacquiao, the #1 contender to the vacant World title at 130 lbs. and current Pound-for-Pound king, could be excused by some if he took a night off. After all, his last three bouts (against Erik Morales and Oscar Larios) scream out for a softie in traditional thinking. Pacquiao seemingly has taken... [Links Take You To RingTalk.com]
Sweet 65 - Happy Birthday Muhammad Ali
WED January 17, BUSTER PARIS - Happy New Year folks – and yes - 2007 is a couple of weeks old, but the year doesn’t truly kick off until January 17th is celebrated – that’s right - Muhammad Ali’s birthday. This year is a pretty special one – The Greatest of ALL Time turns 65.
A couple of years ago I had some suggestions on how to celebrate the birthday of the greatest man to ever lace up a boxing glove and here they are again for you to do either for the first time – or again – and please feel free to send me any suggestions that you have on how to honor the one and only Muhammad Ali!
Wlad-Peter II Should Come After Wlad-Briggs!
MON January 15, CLIFF ROLD - Ring Magazine has a new #2 ranked heavyweight: Samuel Peter. How long we have to wait for a rematch between he and #1 Wladimir Klitschko and whether that fight should be seen as for the vacant true World heavyweight title, will hinge on two factors. The first, under the strong assumption that they won’t be facing off immediately, is that they keep winning. [Links Take You To RingTalk.com]
Samuel Peter’s Best Fight to Date
MON January 8, BUSTER PARIS - ‘DING’ and both men lumber into round 5 and towards each other – they meet center ring and both slam enormously powerful shots on the other – James Toney lands a ginormouse left and Samuel Peter instantly responds with an even bigger right – this engagement isn’t just a slow one-at-a time tryst, but the type of mixing it up we love to see the big boys do – the kind that have leather and head sweat flying and make it sound as if several cows have jumped off a cliff and landed on a bunch of jagged rocks -- ‘BOOM, FWAWHOOPP, BOOM’.
Sam Peter Punishes And Beats James Toney In 12
MON January 8, FRANK GONZALEZ - Saturday night at the Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood Florida, Heavyweights James “Lights Out” Toney (69-6-3-1, 43 KO’s) fought a defining rematch against Sam “The Nigerian Nightmare” Peter (28-1, 22 KO’s). Their first fight resulted in a controversial Decision win for Sam Peter. I thought Toney won that fight with better control and skills.
Peter rarely landed any flush shots in that one but when he did, Toney took them well and always gave back with cleaner shots. Because Peter is so strong, I can understand how some thought..
James Toney – 150% Better Shape = Unifying The Titles
THU January 4, BUSTER PARIS - Question: “James, do you have a different strategy going into this fight?”
Toney: “You know me. James is going to fight like James is going to fight. I do not have any strategy. I walk in and decide to do what I do. The only thing different is, like I said, I am in 150 percent better shape.”
